We are a Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School, at the heart of the vibrant community of West Hampstead, providing an education for children between 3 and 11 years.  Following the best aspirations of the original founders of Church of England schools, we are an inclusive school community in the Christian tradition, which rejoices in diversity, serving the whole wider community.

Our school is situated in a beautiful new building (the Omega building) opened in November 2012. The original Victorian building at 101 Mill Lane (the Alpha building) has recently been refurbished to create an open-plan Early Years’ Foundation Stage Unit.

At Emmanuel we aim to provide all our children with a happy, safe and stimulating environment in which they can fulfil their potential, giving them confidence to be responsible, caring and tolerant adults in a diverse world.

Our children are provided with a rich, broad and varied curriculum in which they gain a life-long ‘love for learning’. Irrespective of ability, they are encouraged to do their best and are enabled to reach the highest levels of achievement possible, ensuring the academic, physical, personal, moral and spiritual enrichment of each unique child.

At Emmanuel, we aspire for everyone in our school community to grow into life in all its fullness: spiritually, physically, emotionally, morally and socially.  This growth is rooted in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and is at the heart of our inclusive vision for the school.

Inspired by the parable of The Good Shepherd in John’s gospel and the Church of England’s vision for education, we believe our school vision, 'Life in all its fullness,' offers a vision of human flourishing for all, which embraces excellence and academic rigour but sets them in a wider framework. At Emmanuel, we want our children to excel in the core subjects of Reading, Writing and Maths and to also experience the whole breadth of the curriculum; whether that may be in History, Art, Music or PE to name but a few of our foundation subjects. We are equally passionate about the spiritual, physical, emotional, moral and social development of children and know that it is often learning in these areas that ensures children are ready for the next stage of education and life beyond. Furthermore, whilst rooted in Christian theology, the vision is hospitable to diversity, respects freedom of religion and belief, and encourages others to contribute from the depths of their own traditions and understandings.

‘From Alpha to Omega’, shows our intention for children to experience ‘life in all its fullness’ from the moment they step into the Alpha building in Nursery or Reception until the day they leave us in Year 6 from the Omega building. In addition, Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet and is often interpreted as ‘until the end’, which demonstrates our aspiration for our children and families to continue to have ‘life in all its fullness’ after they leave Emmanuel too.

The working party went on to discuss the values which would help us uphold our school vision and decided to streamline the number of Christian and learning values that are woven into the very fabric of the school so they can be meaningfully lived out each day.

With that in mind, our six school values are:

In celebration worship on a Friday, two children from each class are rewarded for showing our school vision during that week; their names are published in the weekly newsletter and a certificate is also sent home.

From the school’s foundation in 1845, we have maintained very close links to Emmanuel Church.  A member of the clergy leads a school Eucharist in Church once a week and the children participate in church services throughout the year.
